Concrete Polishing Services & Epoxy Floor Coatings | Concrete Ink

Types of Coatings:

• Grind and Seal – The concrete surface is mechanically profiled and taken up to approximately 100 grit level with our walk behind grinder/polisher. In a basement floor installation, we make repairs and fill cracks and then apply a topical water based epoxy or urethane. On exterior grind and seals, Concrete Ink, will grind off approximately an 1/8″ of the concrete surface to expose the aggregate in the concrete matrix and apply a solvent based exterior sealer to enhance the appearance.
  • Benefits: it can be more cost effective than polishing while still providing a low maintenance solution for our customers.
• Residential, Commercial and Industrial –
• Epoxy Flake Systems – chip floors are 3 to 5 layer systems depending on the size of the flake and degree of broadcast. These systems provide an industrial strength solution for residential basements/garages. The addition of a decorative border using a solid color epoxy or accent color flake will add the beauty and sophistication seen in high end terrazzo flooring.
  • Economical-Epoxy Flake systems are a cost effective alternative to pre-engineered floors. Monolithic-resinous flooring provides an aesthetically pleasing, seamless floor that does not collect dirt, moisture or germs. Where Resinous Color flake systems can be installed: Basements, Bathrooms, Commercial Kitchens, Dog Kennels, Garage Floors, Hospitals, Laboratories, Laundromats, Locker Rooms, Pharmaceutical Plants, Public Municipalities, Restrooms, Schools, and more.

• Quartz Systems – A decorative colored quartz broadcast floor ranges in thickness from 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. Colored quartz granules are broadcast into a clear epoxy base coat, then top coated twice, with a clear polyaspartic, siloxane, urethane, or polyurea. Typically, Concrete Ink installs a seamless cove base with the quartz floor system to allow for easy clean-up and superior durability.
  • Quartz resinous systems are ideal for food processing areas, locker rooms, bathrooms, retail, and industrial concrete surfaces.
• MMA – rapid curing, 100% reactive, Methyl Methacrylate Resin floor coating system. Thickness ranges from an 1/8″ to 1/4″ or greater. A hard wearing, durable, flexible, seamless hygienic concrete coating system that can be used on walls as well as flooring giving a full hygienic, seamless room. It is a four layer system comprising of Primer, Flakes/Chips/Quartz and two coats of top coat.

• Benefits: fully dries and cures in 1 hour, no shut downs. Its flexible and stronger than concrete, smooth or skid resistance, 100% seamless, application guaranteed-product and application guaranteed taking risk away from client.
• Urethane Cement – Basically is water based polyurethane mixed with portland cement & graded aggregates. Particularly, popular in commercial kitchens and food/beverage processing facilities.
  • Benefits: excellent thermal shock resistance, can be anti-microbial, very low odor, and can handle high levels of (MVT) Moisture Vapor Transmission.

Existing concrete can be colored using water-based or solvent based dyes and also by using reactive stains. Dyes come in a concentrated form, using the latest nano-pigment technology, allowing it to penetrate into the surface of the concrete. Dyes are environmentally friendly, dry quickly and have a wide spectrum of colors available. A concrete floor that has been dyed is transparent, so surface cracks and repairs are still visible.

Acid stains- work by reacting chemically with the hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide), etching the color into the surface of the concrete. A chemically stained floor is translucent and the final color will vary depending on the condition of the concrete. Acid stains are limited to earth tone effects and are not as safe to use as dyes. Always remember, imperfections in the surface of a colored concrete floor must be embraced, they can be repaired but not hidden.

Concrete Ink can revitalize old, dirty, cracking interior or exterior concrete surfaces using several different methods. Interior concrete can be ground, honed and polished with or without coloring agents. We can mechanically grind, color and apply a low solids clear interior sealer. Also, we install resinous 1/8″ flake coatings systems in basements and garage floors. When installing epoxy flake systems, all repairs to the
floor can be covered, which leaves the customer with a beautiful, seamless, decorative and most importantly—“Flood Proof” basement floor. Also, in a garage setting it gives you the chemical resistance and durability you need.

Furthermore, Concrete Ink can add decorative score cuts to your basement floor to give it dimension and the appearance of placed polished slabs. Also, solid color epoxy borders/ flaked or dyed perimeter borders installed can take your floor to the next level.

• Concrete Microtoppings and Overlays – these systems most certainly will make a basement floor look incredible. Again, we can hide all the imperfections in the concrete surface. On driveways, we will use them as borders to highlight our exterior large aggregate grind. These are great for pool decks and patios in a residential application and awesome for a distressed retail flooring solution. Concrete Ink has the ability and equipment to restore your existing concrete surface as long as it is not too far gone.

Concrete Ink provides the service and expertise in the removal and disposal of existing flooring, carpet, ceramic/vct tile, hardwood. This includes the grinding off of mastic glue, thinset, overlayments, and coatings to leave a clean surface for future flooring solutions.

Diamond grinding and preparation of the concrete surface is an essential step in the installation of most flooring solutions, for example, concrete coatings, ceramic/vct tile, hardwood and carpet. Concrete Ink recommends diamond grinding over shot blasting/ scarification because they can cause unwanted microfracturing in the surface of the concrete substrate.

Filling control/expansion joints is an excellent preventative maintenance plan for commercial/industrial concrete floors. We use a semi-rigid polyurea because it supports and protects joint edges from heavy equipment loads. Having level/ smooth joints in a warehouse environment will minimize costly repairs to forklifts and pallet Jacks, allowing facility operations savings in downtime and decreased liability to inventory and employees.

Contending with high moisture levels in fast-track flooring projects has always been a challenge for flooring contractors. Concrete Ink utilizes a two-part moisture vapor epoxy primer when installing resinous flooring in high moisture level installations.

Revive your dirty concrete surface with our Pressure Wash and Seal package.  Power washing cleans the surface to a new look and sealing add the protection to keep out moisture and contaminates.

Polished concrete floors are very durable and sustainable, however, these are finished floor solutions and must be maintained by a proper cleaning program.

In high traffic environments, such as a retail space or grocery store, a polished concrete floor can lose its beautiful shine by not keeping the floor clean of contaminants, using an abrasive cleaning agent and an auto scrubber with aggressive cleaning pads.

Checklist for Maintenance:

• Dust mop the floor daily with a dry microfiber pad to keep dirt and contaminants from abrading the polished surface.
• Wet mop with water in small sq. ft. situations and/or use a Auto scrubber equipped with non-abrasive wipe pads in larger sq. ft. environments.
• Although just clean water can be used, Concrete Ink recommends using only “neutral-ph” cleaners on polished floors. Recommended neutral-ph cleaner: Ameripolish Polismart CS rejuvenating cleaner.
• Clean up penetrating spills-(i.e. motor oil, red wine) as quickly as possible so they don’t absorb into the surface, causing a stain.
• Acidic spills-(orange juice, pickle juice) will etch the surface of the concrete if not cleaned up in a timely manner.
• Cleaning schedules will vary depending on foot-traffic and the introduction of salts and dirt from outside weather conditions.
• Concrete Ink has found the that proper placement of walk-off mats at entrances of facilities, aids in protecting polished concrete floors.
